On his death anniversary, let's take a look at some interesting facts about him.
Lohia was one of the founders of the Congress Socialist Party and editor of its mouthpiece Congress Socialist.
He opposed Indians being roped in for the Royal Army during World War II for which he was jailed in 1939 and 1940.
He founded Hind Kisan Panchayat with an aim of helping farmers to give solutions in agriculture in independent India.
Lohia wanted Hindi to be the official language of India after Independence.
In 1963, Lohia wrote a pamphlet highlighting the Rs 25,000 per day spent on Nehru’s security, while 70 per cent of citizen survived on 3 'annas' a day.
Lohia, who studied at Berlin University in Germany, organised the Association of European Indians to raise voice against British oppression.
