Sikkim was the first state in the country to get a solar-powered ATM.
The solar-powered ATM was inaugurated in Gangtok by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharamanon Tuesday.
Keeping in mind its plans to reduce carbon footprint, the Punjab National Bank launched this first-of-its kind ATM in the country.
This ATM is a mobile van that will operate with solar power instead of electricity.
The mobile van will have components such as battery, solar plates and an ATM machine.
In addition to reducing carbon footprint, this ATM will be helpful for those in far-away areas to avail cash withdrawal services.
Also known as Green ATM, it would also save electricity and be functional in the absence of power.
