Govt's One nation, One charger plan: What we know

krishna murthy
One Nation, One Charger -- the government is exploring the adoption of a common charger for a variety of devices in India.
From smartphones to laptops, all of the devices we use in our everyday lives will have a standard or universal charger.
The move will reduce the burden on consumers besides preventing e-waste.
It will solve one key issue in our daily lives: the many confusions and carrying issues that come with multiple chargers.
The idea is inspired by a similar move by the European Union to make a universal charger.
A similar demand is in the US as well.
If implemented successfully, there are chances that chargers and charging cords price may become costlier.
However, the One Nation, One Charger policy is likely to gain widespread popular approval.
Currently, consumers are forced to buy a separate charger every time they buy a new device due to incompatibility of the ports of the existing charger.
