On January 26 2023, India will celebrate its 74th Republic Day
It was on January 26 1950 the Constitution of India was implemented in India
Armed and Paramilitary forces will perform a grand parade on January 26 at Kartavya Path
There would be 23 tableaux of states on display, followed by cultural performances by children
The first parade was organised at Irwin Stadium which is now the National Stadium in Delhi
Then Indonesian President, Dr. Sukarno was the first international guest who attended the parade as chief guest
A 21 Gun Salute is given before the event begins and it is done with 21 canons
7 cannons of the Indian Army called 25 Ponders are used for firing in three rounds
Participants get ready for the even at 2 am, arrive at the venue by 3 am. The parade starts at 7.30 am
600 hours of practice is done by the participants who begin preparing in July
Army personnel taking part in the parade pass through 4 levels of investigation and their arms are not loaded with live bullets
In addition to the national song, Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite song, Abide with me is played at the R-Day parade
