Countries where military service is compulsory

There are several countries where military services are compulsory
In Russia it is mandatory to be part of the military for 12 months for able bodied men aged between 18 and 27
In South Korea men are supposed to serve either in the army for 21 months, navy for 23 months or Air Force for 24 months
In Israel it is mandatory for everyone above the age of 18 to serve in the military. The duration is 2.8 years for men and 2 years for women. Ultra-Orthodox and Arab Israelis are exempt from this
In Brazil it is mandatory for men to serve in the military for a minimum of 12 months. They can choose to remain enlisted personnel for 8 years
All men above the age of 18 should serve in the military for a period of 18 to 24 months
In Turkey the length of mandatory service to serve in the army was brought down from 12 to 6 months
In Cuba military service is mandatory for all men in the age group of 17 t0 28 for a period of two years
Military service is compulsory for men and voluntary for women in Switzerland for a period of 21 weeks
Sweden has made military service for a period of 9 to 12 weeks
Eritrea, the northeast African country says that the mandatory service duration in the military is 18 months for those men in the age group of 18 to 24. However there are complaints that in many cases the duration becomes indefinite
