Come July 1 and India will ban these single use plastic items

Starting July 1 several plastic items in India will be banned

The Centre on Tuesday announced that India will ban the manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use plastic items with low utility and high littering potential
The ban on several plastic items would come into effect from July 1 2022
Special enforcement teams will be formed to check illegal manufacture, import, stocking, distribution, sale and use of banned single-use plastic items
The adverse impacts of littered single use plastic items plastic on both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, including in marine environment are globally recognised. Addressing pollution due to single use plastic items has become an important environmental challenge confronting all countries, the government said
The list of items banned will include earbuds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice-cream sticks, polystyrene (Thermocol) for decoration
From July 1 there would be a ban on plastic plates, cups, glasses, cutlery such as forks, spoons, knives, straw, trays, wrapping or packing films around sweet boxes
The Centre also said there would be a ban on invitation cards, cigarette packets, plastic or PVC banners less than 100 micron, stirrers
