Are you a mosquito magnet?
Do you think that mosquitoes bite you more than other people? Are you a mosquito magnet? If yes, you’re not alone.
There are several studies, some of which date back to the 1970s, show that mosquitoes prefer some people over others.
However, a recent study has confirmed that some people are consistently more attractive for mosquitoes than others due to skin odour differences
Researchers have discovered that some people produce a certain chemical on their skin that is tied to smell, which mosquitoes find attractive. Yes you read it right!
The healthy bacteria that are on the skin consume these acids and create part of the skin’s odour profile
What makes it worse is that the bloodsuckers stay loyal to their favourites over time.
The findings of the study were published in the journal Cell. The experiment used the Aedes aegypti mosquito that spreads diseases like yellow fever, Zika, and dengue.
However, researchers are hopeful future studies could help find novel methods to repel mosquitoes.
