Hudhud: Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu stays awake in Vizag to monitor recovery
Naidu, 64, has shifted his base from Hyderabad, the joint capital of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, to Vishakhapatnam after the cyclone made landfall here on October 12, resulting in loss of lives and massive damage to property. According to reports, the Telugu Desam Party leader is staying in a bus which has been parked outside the city collectorate since October 13. The vehicle has been turned into the chief minister's makeshift office and he is reviewing the relief work being carried out by his administration.
On Friday, Naidu visited Srikakulam district bordering Odisha to review the situation. Srikakulam is among the three districts which was badly hit by the powerful cyclone.
Naidu has decided to stay by his people till normalcy is completely restored in the coastal city. The city is likely to have its electricity connection restored by Sunday evening while necessary items lile petrol and food were made available. Operations also began at the city airport which was badly hit by the cyclone.
But Naidu is far from feeling satisfied. The man, who has returned to the chief minister's office after a decade, is interacting with the common people and seeking feedback on the recovery mission. He even slammed the telecom service providers for failing to restore the connection at the earliest after the storm.
Chandrababu Naidu is known to be one of India's earliest tech-savvy chief ministers, even before the likes of Narendra Modi had made a mark. He lost his prominence after the YSR era set off in Andhra Pradesh. But now, the man is back to the headlines again and for the right reasons. His sense of accountability has given the demoralised people of Vishakhapatnam a lot of hope.
