Odisha : Villagers risk their lives to cross river in Mayurbhanj

Villagers of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district are compelled to risk their lives to cross the nullah of Deo River. For the people of the villages located barely 40 km from the block headquarters, a bridge made of two bamboo poles over a nullah is their only means of connectivity to the outside world. The villagers of eight villages of Myurbhanj district namely, Kholpoda, Rangamatia, Aonlakota, Badaramchandrapur, Shyamchandrapur, etc have been treading on the bamboo bridge for past seven years to reach the other end. The 8 villages have a population of just over 3000 including children. The nullah remains dry for six months of the year and for the rest six months, they tie bamboos to cross the nullah.
