What happened on May 27TH in history. In the year 1921, After 84 years of British Control, Afghanistan was declared independent from British. The United States recognized Afghanistan, then under the rule of King Amanullah, in 1921, and established diplomatic relations in 1935. In the year 1948, Mahatma Gandhi assassination trial started in a special court of judge in Red Fort. Nine men were accused of killing Gandhi and the trial came to an end on 10th February, 1949. On May 27, 1963, the people of Kenya voted for the first time in history for their own government. Winning a better than two-to-one majority of parliamentary seats was the Kenya African Nation Union. As a result, 73-year-old Jomo Kenyatta, leader of Kenya’s independence movement and head of KANU, was assured to become the nation’s first prime minister. Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, country's longest serving prime minister died on this day at 74 years of age from heart attack. He fought for India's freedom against the British rule. He was imprisoned several times during the freedom struggle. He became the first prime minister of independent India in 1947.
