Fire at explosives factory in Trichy leaves many dead
The factory, Vetrivel explosives limited, manufactured mild explosives for mining purposes
Massive fire at a explosives factory killed 17 people and injured many Trichy of Tamil Nadu on Thursday. The fire triggered an explosion causing a portion of the building to come crashing down trapping those inside.
Fire and Emergency personnel claimed that fire was noticed in one of the manufacturing wings of the building and soon spread to other areas. The noise from the explosions forced the police to stop traffic on Athur road. Rescue personel claimed that about 200 workers had reported to work at 6 AM on Thursday.
Nitric acid fumes were fought with foam and brought under control. The factory, Vetrivel explosives limited, manufactured mild explosives for mine digging and hard rock cracking purposes.
