Lord Ayyappa will accept cards now, E-hundi at Sabarimala


The Ayyappa swamy temple at Sabarimala introduced e-hundis on Thursday in a bid to sail over cash crunch in the country following demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. Devotees thronging the shrine can now can make electronic transfer of offerings with debit and credit cards.


"There would be no limit for offerings with debit card. A devotee can offer even Re 1 with a credit card", said Ajay Tharayil, member of the Travancore Devaswom board. The temple's pilgrimage season began from November 16. Lakh of devotees from across the country worship at the temple during the three-month-long Mandalam Makaravilakku festival, for which the hill shrine was opened on 15 November.

Alappuzha Sub-Collector E Chandrasekhar inaugurated the swipe machine at a function on Thursday and the temple authorities believe that it will benefit devotees coming to the hilltop shrine from across the country.
