Thiruvanathpuram, Nov 18: Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and his cabinet staged Satyagraha in front of RBI's regional office here in Thiruvananthapuram to protest against the Centre's attempt to 'weaken' the cooperative banking sector.
On Thursday, protesting the central government's move Pinarayi Vijayan called for an open protest against the decision.
According to sources, Kerala CM along with his ministers of the state will stage a protest demonstration before the RBI office in Thiruvananthapuram from 10am till 5pm.
Earlier, Pinarayi Vijayan and the chief ministers of Punjab, Odisha and Maharashtra had written to Narendra Modi demanding his intervention at allowing the cooperative banks to exchange demonetised notes. However, the Centre said that cooperative banks could not be given the same rights as that of nationalised banks.
In a notification issued on RBI website, the district central cooperative banks will not be allowed to provide any exchange facility against Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.
