One person was killed during clashes between protesters and security forces in Kashmir on Saturday even as men, women and children dressed in their best-thronged mosques and Eidgah across the Valley for Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations.

A protester throws an exploded tear gas shell back at police and CRPF during a clash, which erupted after youth staged a protest march soon after Eid-ul-Fitr prayers in Srinagar

Sheeraz Ahmed was hurt during the clashes at Brakpora in Anantnag and he later succumbed to injuries, police said, adding another person was injured in the clashes in Safakadal.

Massive stone pelting is going on at Janglaat Mandi Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir. Stone pelting and clashes between youth and security forces started before EID prayers.

According to reports, security forces resorted to tear smoke shells. The situation turned more violent after EID prayers were over.

The situation turned volatile a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and to review the suspension of operations during the holy month of Ramzan.

The valley has witnessed the killings of over 55 militants and the deaths of 27 locals this year.

The situation in Kashmir is considered to be turbulent as nearly 80 incidents of violence occurred there in the last four months. Civilians were often seen thronging to encounter sites to stage protests with the intention of giving the militants an opportunity to escape.
