New Delhi, Aug 15: Their journey at the Rio Olympics 2016 may have ended but the nation is proud of the achievements of athlete Lalita Babar and gymnast Dipa Karmakar for making it to the final of their respective events.
Dipa missed a bronze medal in the women's vault final on Sunday (Aug 14) while Lalita finished 10 in the 3000m women's steeplechase final on Monday (Aug 15).
Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar joined millions of Indians and celebrities from all walks of life to congratulate gymnast Dipa Karmakar, who missed bronze medal by a whisker at the ongoing. Sports enthusiasts also lauded Lalita for making thus far and hoped she would only better her performances.
Meanwhile, an overawed Virender Sehwag took to Twitter, to appeal Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honour both these women athletes and name train or a plane in their names, even for a short period of time, to inspire younger generations.
