Kabaddi World Cup 2016: Indian Team announced; Anup Kumar named captain

New Delhi, Sep 20: Putting an end to the speculations, India on Tuesday (Sep 20) announced it's 14-member squad for the upcoming 2016 Kabaddi World Cup.

India's veteran raider Anup Kumar has been named the captain of the 14-member star-studded Indian squad.

India will face South Korea in the opening game starting October 7, 2016 in Ahmedabad.

Initially, a total of 26 probables were selected for the camp, held in Gujarat.

All the 14 players have performed exceptionally well in the Pro Kabaddi League and would be hoping to continue their dominance in the game. India have decided to go with six raiders, 5 defenders and 3 all-rounders.

It will be the biggest Kabaddi extravaganza of the year as teams from 12 countries are going to participate in the event.


Here is the final squad:


Raider 1: Anup Kumar (captain); he has been India's star raider and a charismatic captain who leads with example.

Raider 2: Rahul Chaudhary, both side raider. He has been the most successful raider in the four seasons of PKL.

Raider 3: Deepak Hooda, very talented young raider.

Raider 4: Pardeep Narwal, sharp minded raider famous for his 'dubkee'.

Raider 5: Jasvir Singh, known for confusing the opponents' defence, very experienced

Raider 6: Ajay Thakur very skilled at overcoming lower body tackle.

Team India announced

Defender 1: Mohit Chhillar, India's one of the best defender for Right Cover

Defender 2: Surender Nadda, Left Corner.

Defender 3: Surjeet Singh, Right Cover

Defender 4: D Cherathalan, any side.

Defender 5: Kiran Parmar, he is also a smart raider.

Indian Kabaddi Team

All Rounder 1: Manjeet Chillar, best from Left Cover.

All Rounder 2: Nitin Tomar.

All Rounder 3: Sandeep Narwal, can be put on any side of the mat and a great raider from the left.
