Bengaluru, Nov 29: A tragic incident shook the football world this morning when the news came in that an airplane carrying Brazilian football club Chapecoense football team crashed in Medellin, Colombia.

Airplane carrying Brazilian club crashes in Colombia

The Chapecoense side were on their way to take on Colombian side Atletico Nacional in the first leg of the finals of Copa Sudamericana 2016.

The plane which the club had boarded were carrying a total of 72 passengers. According to media reports, there might be a few survivors from this tragic plane crash and the rescue team have already reached the spot to help them.

Chapecoense had defeated Argentine side San Lorenzo in the semi-final of the competition. Copa Sudamericana is the second most prestigious tournament in South America which is hosted by the CONMEBOL, association of South American football.

As the Brazilian side lost its footballers to this tragic incident, fans around the world mourned on Twitter.
