Virat Kohli should not be rushed into captaincy in ODIs, T20Is: Sunil Gavaskar

New Delhi, May 11: Amid growing chorus over making Virat Kohli India's ODI, T20 skipper, former India captain and legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar feels the Indian swashbuckler, who is in a supreme form, should not be rushed into handing over captaincy in all formats.

"Virat should not be rushed into captaincy in all formats. Let him grow into this role... 2019 World Cup is far away," Gavaskar was quoted by NDTV as saying.

Kohli is the highest run-getter in the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League and his ability to hit the cricket ball at such ease is simply amazing.

Kohli has amassed 561 runs in nine IPL games so far. Kohli also averages 95.57 in Twenty20 Internationals in 2015/16. The Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper has also slammed two centuries in this season, which is also a record.

But, Kohli's lone heroics are not helping his side win matches as RCB is languishing at sixth position in the points table.

"Bowlers have let Royal Challengers Bangalore down in IPL. Kohli is as good as his team," Gavaskar said while speaking on RCB's show.

To keep their hopes in the ongoing tournament alive RCB must win their game against Mumbai Indians today.
