India U-19 captain Ishan Kishan 'beaten up', arrested ahead of World Cup

Patna, Jan 13: In a major blow to India Under-19 team, its captain Ishan Kishan was 'beaten up' and later arrested by Patna police after his car hit an auto rickshaw and injured several people.

According to reports, Kishan was driving his father's car and as was overspeeding. The car hit an auto from behind resulting in injuries to several people inside the vehicle, on Tuesday (January 12).

After the accident, people on the road 'surrounded', 'fought' and 'beat up' Kishan, media reports claimed. Later he and others, who were involved in the 'fight' were arrested by the police.

Kishan was recently appointed as the captain of India for the ICC Under-19 World Cup. The tournament will be held this month in Bangladesh. The team is being coached by former India captain and batting legend Rahul Dravid.

India are in Group A with Ireland, New Zealand and Nepal. India's first game is on January 28 against Ireland.

Kishan, who is a wicketkeeper-batsman, plays for Jharkhand. He recently played with India's limited overs captain MS Dhoni in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Bengaluru.
