Fired up Virat Kohli gives send-off to talkative Steve Smith in 1st T20I

At the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday (January 26), Kohli starred in India's 37-run victory over Australia in the opening Twenty20 International of the 3-match series. (T20I series schedule)

After smashing his T20I best of 90 not out from 55 balls, a charged up Kohli gave a mouthful send-off to batsman Steve Smith after the Australian was busy giving running commentary to "Channel 9" while batting. (Love playing in Adelaide: Kohli)

As Australia chased 189, they had a brisk start, thanks to skipper Aaron Finch and David Warner. In the 6th over, Warner fell to debutant paceman Jasprit Bumrah.

Smith walked out to bat at number three and after a good start he was a caught for 21 (14 balls, 3x4) by Kohli off left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja. (Dhoni on 'Kohli Stand' in Adelaide)

As in some T20I games, players are mic'd up during the match. It can be while fielding and also batting. Smith had been wired up with the Wide World of Sports commentary team and was giving his views as he batted.

But this seems to have clearly upset Kohli. As soon as Smith departed, Kohli gestured with his right hand, indicating that he was talking too much. Also he uttered few words and celebrated the catch with his mouth wide open.

Maybe Kohli told Smith that it was better of for him to concentrate on his batting than to give commentary.

When India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was asked about the incident, after the match, he said the players "handled it quite well" and it was best to leave it.

"If there was (an exchange of words), the players handled it quite well so let's leave it there," Dhoni was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia's (CA) website.

This was not the first time on the current tour of Australia that Kohli had displayed his aggression through words. He had exchanged words with all-rounder James Faulkner during the ODI series telling him "I have smashed you enough".
