BCCI not keen on ICC's proposal to bring cricket into Olympic fold?

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is facing a major roadblock in its desire to bring cricket into the Olympic fold.

New Delhi, July 31: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is facing a major roadblock in its desire to bring cricket into the Olympic fold.

As per reports, the cricketing body's dream to bring the game on the roaster of the 2024 Olympic Games is not getting the support of the Board of Control from Cricket in India (BCCI).

BCCI not keen on ICC's proposal to bring cricket into Olympic fold?

BCCI, a firm believer of cricket being a non-Olympic sport, has been against sending the Indian team to the quadrennial extravaganza despite the ICC pushing for cricket to be a part of the mega event.

Cricket was last played in the Olympics in the 1900 Paris Games and the ICC is pushing for a return of the T20 format of the sport in the 2024 Olympics, which will be held at the same venue where it last featured.

But for that to happen, the ICC needs the BCCI on board and as of now most of the BCCI officials are in no mood for that.

"We have heard about the ICC's Olympics initiative but most members are not keen," a senior BCCI functionary told the Times of India.

The International Olympic Council (IOC) has made it's stand clear to the ICC that they will consider bringing cricket back to the fold only if the top teams and players will assure their participation in the event.

"The ICC is continuing to explore the possibility of cricket's inclusion in the Olympics and the main thrust of that at present is on convincing the BCCI. But with everything that has happened there over the last few months, it has delayed the process," a source was quoted by the TOI as saying.

The global cricketing body has approached the BCCI to take a call on this issue so that they can take the next step and present their bidding process for the event.
