Jharkhand: Nun from Missionaries of Charity confesses to selling babies

Ranchi, July 14: A nun of Missionaries of Charity, arrested by Ranchi police on charges of child trafficking, has confessed to having sold babies. In this short clip, the nun says three babies had been had been sold but the fourth infant was given away for adoption for free.

She is one of the two nuns who was arrested by Ranchi police on charges of child trafficking on July 9. Police said '3 out of 4 children have been recovered.'

Days after the Roman Catholic Church backed the nun at the Missionaries of Charity shelter home, the police put out a video of the nun confessing to her role in the racket.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das had ordered a probe by Jharkhand State Child Protection Commission (JSCPC) into the selling of a baby by the staff of a shelter home run by Missionaries of Charity in Ranchi.

A woman staffer and a sister of Nirmal Hriday, a shelter home run by the Missionaries of Charity at Jail Road, were arrested last week for allegedly selling a child born to a minor inmate of the home to a Uttar Pradesh-based couple.
