Ranchi, Oct 31: The JMM on Friday termed as "improper" the Congress' decision of breaking their alliance in poll-bound Jharkhand.

"How far is it proper on their part even after seeing the Lok Sabha elections? " JMM General Secretary Suprio Bhattacharya asked, reacting to AICC General Secretary B K Hariprasad's announcement marking the end of the alliance.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee's General Secretary Alok Dubey welcomed today's decision saying "it is a good step".

"The JMM had come to us for to form the government, and one can't talk about secularism without taking the Congress. It is Jharkhand’s development and not JMM in our agenda," Dubey said.

Hints of a break-up were visible on October 27 when several leaders of the Jharkhand PCC who attended the party’s extended Working Committee meeting resented contesting the assembly elections under the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

The AICC General Secretary today announced that the Congress would contest the Assembly polls in Jharkhand along with RJD and JD-U, with which it had faced bypolls in Bihar in August.

Hariprasad said the Congress will take a call later on whether to withdraw support to the Hemant Soren Government.

The five-phase election in Jharkhand is beginning on November 25. Now JMM is heading the coalition supported by Congress, RJD and other parties in the state.
