Chhattisgarh: Cop posted in naxal-hit district kills self
Raipur, June 17: A sub-Inspector of police allegedly committed suicide on Thursday, June 16 by shooting himself in his head with his service weapon in Gurur area of Balod district.
The body of the officer, identified as Mahendra Kabirpanthi, was found near a dhaba on Jagdalpur-Raipur national highway under Gurur police station limits, a senior police official told PTI.
The deceased was posted in the naxal-affected Narayanpur district. As per the preliminary information, Kabirpanthi was present at Narayanpur police line, his workplace, last evening.
He probably left for his native place in Mungeli district in the night hours on his motorcycle and then stopped at the dhaba, according to the official.
The incident came to light when some locals spotted the sub-inspector's body during noon and then informed police. The body had a bullet injury on head and his service revolver was lying nearby, the official said, adding that the ballistic experts have opined that the bullet was fired from the same gun.
The exact motive behind Kabirpanthi taking the extreme step is being probed as no suicide note was found near the body. A case has been registered in this connection and further probe is on, he added.
