Pune, Aug 12: It is often said that the friendship should be between the people of equal levels. But still, many don't care about it and make friends with whoever they get along well, irrespective of the society they belong to.

In Pune, a shocking incident has been reported where an IBM employee became friend with an auto driver. This 'strange' friendship took a fatal turn, as the 40-year-old techie paid for his life.

murder

As per a report published in TOI, on Sunday, Aug 2 (Friendship Day), Mohan Shenoy, a senior employee in IBM, was brutally murdered by his 'friend' and regular auto driver, 23-year-old Uttam Gadhve.

Shenoy, was from Mumbai but he was living in Shastrinagar, Yerawada. He was unmarried and had Rs 32 lakh in his bank accounts.

Over a period of time since June 2015, Shenoy and Gadhve had turned good friends. Shenoy started sharing his financial details with Gadhve, but he had little idea that one day this man will kill him for money.

He revealed his ATM pin of his salary account and allowed Gadhve to accompany him inside ATM kiosks several times.

Killed friend on Friendship Day

On Aug 2, Gadhve, alongwith 21-year-old Vishal Kale, met Shenoy at a hotel near Mandai, Shukrawar Peth, from where they took him to Pirangut Ghat, on the outskirts of Pune.

He brutally smashed his head with a heavy stone, beyond recognition, stole his ATM cards and withdrew Rs 2.5 lakh from various ATMs in Pune, Shirdi and Solapur.

He also purchased a Mobile phone worth Rs 17,000, gambled, consumed liquor and stayed in hotels, from the stolen money.

On Monday, Aug 3, a passerby noticed Shenoy's dead body and alerted police, following which a murder case was registered at Paud Police station.

Gadhve is a resident of Maniknagar in Yerawada and has 14 cases against him.

"Shenoy used to pay him four times the fare", a senior inspector investigating the case said.

Worried over Shenoy's whereabouts, his parents based in Mumbai, came to Pune and filed a missing complaint of their son at Yerawada Police station.
