'People of Pondicherry proud of French heritage': Kiran Bedi on being trolled over WC tweet
Kiran Bedi gave them a befitting reply on Twitter early this morning saying that Puducherry and France share a very memorable historical bond.
Puducherry, July 16: Unperturbed by trolling on Twitter for congratulating the people of Puducherry for France's World Cup win, Kiran Bedi on Monday said people of the Union Territory are proud of their French heritage.
Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Kiran Bedi, was criticised after a tweet saying "We the Puducherrians (erstwhile French Territory) won the World Cup". Some of the twitterati did not like Bedi's reference to Puducherry's past as a French colony.
"You had to see Pondicherry yesterday,we streamed the FIFA final on the beach, people in Pondicherry are very proud of there French heritage. People felt related to the French team, they felt a part of them won the World Cup," Bedi told the media today.
Soon after her tweet, the Twitteratti ridiculed her and even asked her to pull the tweet down.
"We are Indians Madam. Your publicity stunts need to stop.." said one of the trollers.
"There are other ways to celebrate a French victory than to be so servile. I'm a born Pondicherrian, I don't feel I've won at all. France won, and it's a game and I love the game. I don't need the crutch of a colonial mindset to enjoy. Please do consider pulling this tweet down," said another user.
However, Kiran Bedi gave them a befitting reply on Twitter early this morning saying that Puducherry and France share a very memorable historical bond.
