Bangalore, July 17: Two days after a girl reportedly consumed rat poison inside the college premises, her family has withdrawn charges against the accused NCC instructor.

The decision to withdraw the charges came when the girl's father realized that this will leave a permanent mark on his daughter's life. So, he withdrew the case on Tuesday as he didn't want all the unnecessary legal procedures.

The 18-year-old girl took the extreme step of consuming poison when she was repeatedly sexually harassed by Ajay Panitran, NCC in-charge and Controller Officer for Examination at Christ University campus.

The victim, who, has been admitted to the ICU at Jayanagar General Hospital and is currently under observation, is a resident of Jayanagar's 4th T Block and is in the third semester of Bachelor of Arts.

The doctor, who is treating the victim said that she will be discharged in a day or two.

In her statement, girl said, "This was not the first time, the harassment has been happening for six months now and I had kept it a secret until now."

"During one trip, he called me one day and asked me for a massage, which I refused to do. When we returned, he asked me to pay for the petrol for his bike as he had spent around Rs 20,000 during the expedition. I told him I will pay the sum to the college. He lost his temper and began to abuse me, threatening to have me expelled," she added.

On Monday, when she raised her voice and refused to attend an NCC parade being held on the college grounds, an NCC Senior Under Officer slapped her in front of 30 students.

"This was humiliating and since I couldn't bear it, I took rat poison. He has withheld NCC certificates from a few other students as well and has been sexually harassing them, too. It was with great difficulty I managed to get admission in this college," said the victim.

According to Deccan Chronicle report, the accused has been arrested and taken into 14-day judicial custody.

Earlier, the girl's father had filed a complaint against the NCC Instructor at the Mico Layout police station but later on, he withdrew the case on Tuesday.
