After Etah hooch tragedy, Nitish Kumar seeks liquor ban in UP
Speaking at a rally in Phulpur on Sunday, Kumar said: "I felt shock and grief when I read the news about Etah in newspapers. The tragedy is yet another reminder of the various evils that have their roots in the consumption of liquor."
Kumar added that Uttar Pradesh should take a cue from Bihar where the consumption and sale of liquor has been banned.
"We had promised the people of Bihar, that we will prohibit the sale and consumption of alcohol if our party came to power. We kept the promise and the state is certain to reap benefits. UP too can do the same," he said.
Kumar had earlier even urged prime minister Narendra Modi to ban the sale of liquor across the country.
13 daily wage labourers had died on Saturday after consuming liquor on Friday, while fresh casualties were reported on Sunday taking the death toll to 32.
