Republic Day parade: TMC cries foul over rejected WB tableau
New Delhi, Jan 26: All eyes were glued to our television sets today as the Republic Day parade began at Rajpath. 16 tableaux were on display at the parade displaying that rich culture of each state.
However West Bengal tablaeu was missing from the parade, which has left the Bengal government fuming. The reason behind that- well as Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien puts it 'Bengal tableau showcasing the Kanya Shree scheme was rejected.'
R-Day: Rejecting Bengal's tableau was not a case of singling out
O'Brien alleged that the government rejected the tableau was rejected because it depicted the Kanya Shree scheme. "While the whole country is talking about girl child, Bengal's tableau was rejected. Life goes on." he said.
"We are very sad and disappointed." he added.
If reports are to be believed, WB tableau was rejected because of the Kanya Shree scheme (welfare of the girl child), which was similar to the central government's Beti Bacho, Beti Padhao tableau . The Defence ministry told the Bengal government that they should depict a broad culture of the state's culture.
