New Delhi, Oct 22: India on Tuesday warned Pakistan that it would face more "pain" if it continued to violate the ceasefire along the Kashmir border. Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, who also holds the finance portfolio, said it was upto Pakistan to create the ambience suitable for talks between the two neighbours.

"Our conventional strength is far more than theirs. So if they persist with this, they'll feel the pain of this adventurism," Jaitley told NDTV. He said India always had a shield in its hand whenever Pakistan opened fire but now it has decided to take up the sword.

Jaitley said Islamabad had to stop upsetting the conditions for talks.

Pakistan also expressed its tough stand vis-a-vis India during the day. Sartaj Aziz, adviser to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Pakistan was capable of thwarting any aggression from the Indian side and the latter should have no doubt about that. Speaking to Pakistan's state television PTV, Aziz said Islamabad would never bow before New Delhi's supremacy and hegemony and protect its vital interests.

Aziz said he did not see any friendly relation with India at the moment but assured that Pakistan would do whatever it takes to normalise the relations. He said neither of the two countries could escalate tension in the region. He also accused Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of normalising relation with Pakistan on his own terms but said it was not acceptable to Pakistan.

Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval said New Delhi was open to talks with Islamabad. He said India would look forward to address all bilateral issues with Pakistan through talks while having an "effective deterrence" to tackle the threat of terrorism coming up from Pakistan.
