Kanwar Yatra 2018: From Delhi police advisory to non-veg ban-all you need to know
New Delhi, Aug 3: With the commencement of the holy month, Sawan or Shravan, Kanwar Yatra, the annual pilgrimage of devotees of Lord Shiva, too began on July 28.
During the holy month, Shiva devotees travel the distance on foot, few also travel on bicycles, motor cycles, scooters, mini trucks or jeeps. However, keeping in mind the traffic congestion that is caused by the month-long Kanwar yatra every year, traffic restrictions are in place on the Kanwar Yatra route in parts of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh this year.

As they began the demanding journey, the Bhojpuri song Bin Bhole Ke Sawan, featuring Pawan Singh and Akshara Singh in the music video, went viral all over again. Blaring music is not uncommon during the almost two-week long procession, and from the looks of it, this song will be very popular with the devotees this year.
In Meerut, non-veg food joints turn veg for kanwariyas
For the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, owners of over a dozen non-vegetarian food outlets in the Ghantaghar locality of Meerut have started selling paneer biryani. Reports say that they have even put up banners saying that the decision has been taken for the Shravan month when Hindus don't eat meat, and to honour the kanwar yatris.
Delhi Police issues advisory for Sharavan Shivratri
The Delhi Traffic Police have put in place elaborate arrangements to segregate the movement of Kanwariyas and other road users and to minimise inconvenience to the general public and devotees. The devotees and road users are advised to follow the traffic rules and obey the directions of policemen on duty. During the period of Kanwaria movement, traffic violations will be checked by on the spot prosecution.
