Indian Air Force Day 2022: Theme, History and Significance

New Delhi, Oct 07: Every year on October 8, India celebrates Air Force Day to celebrate one of the strongest armed forces in the country. This year, the country is celebrating its 90th Indian Air Force Day.

On this day, nation prays tribute to the Air Force and acknowledge their contribution, and excellence India has presented in the field.

Indian Air Force Day 2022: History

Also known as 'Bharatiya Vayu Sena', Indian Air Force was officially established on 8 October 1932 as an auxiliary air force of the British Empire which honoured India's aviation service during World War II with the prefix Royal. With the government's transition to a Republic in 1950, the prefix Royal was removed after only three years.

Since Independence, the Indian Air Force has taken part in several wars including four wars with Pakistan and one with the People's Republic of China.

The IAF was also included in major Operations like Vijay, Operation Meghdoot, Operation Cactus and Operation Poomalai. The IAF has also took part in United Nations peacekeeping missions.

Notably, the IAF not only safeguards national interests but also a great support during natural calamities in the country. So, Indian Sir Force Day is celebrated to honour and recognise the selfless efforts of the entire force.

Indian Air Force Day recognises the efforts and countless sacrifices that the armed forces make. It also also encourage youngsters to dream to be a part of the force.

The IAF day is also an occasion to unites the country and brings the citizens together to pay tribute to the air force regardless of their social class or gender.
