New Delhi, September 4: In a shocking revelation, it has come to light that some private hospitals in Delhi refer dead patients to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), in an attempt to save themselves from the blame of causing deaths.

As per a report published in TOI, an analysis conducted by AIIMS over referred patients revealed that extremely critical patients were often transferred to AIIMS, some of them even died before even reaching the hospital.

The AIIMS director was quoted as saying, "On an average, we get eight to 10 such patients every week."

Another senior doctor at AIIMS said that private hospitals indulge in such malpractices when they come to know that the patients belong to financially poor backgrounds and they cannot afford the high fees of the treatment.

To curb such malpractiices, AIIMS director said that "they have adopted a new policy under which no critically-ill patient referred from another hospital can be admitted without prior information and discussion with specialists concerned."

The bitter reality of private hospitals indulging in such malicious activities show that for such hospitals or clinics, the life of patient holds no value in front of their over-expensive fees.

Early this year, a patient from an economically weaker section was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in south-west Delhi. When he passed away in the hospital after two days, his grieving family members were told "first to pay the charges", only then, they will allow to take his body for conducting his last rites.

The shattered family members, then somehow, arranged the amount of hospital fees and then performed his cremation.
