New Delhi, Aug 4: Delhi, the national capital, is already fighting with the "rape capital" tag and crimes against women in the city refuses to die down. But, besides being unsafe for women, Delhi is also known to be insensitive in certain matters that needs to be looked upon seriously.

On Friday, July 31, some commuters of Delhi metro were shocked and stunned when a young lady refused to offer her seat to a pregnant woman, who politely asked her to give her the seat.

Delhi metro shocker: Pregnant woman denied seat by a girl in ladies coach

Although such incidents are common in public transport like buses and metros, that when some senior citizen people or disabled people ask for seats, then they are blatantly refused by the so-called "youngsters".

But when a woman is pregnant, then not only her family members but people surrounding her also try to make her comfortable, even if they are strangers.

Coming back to the incident, Akansha Sharma, who like many other commuters, witnessed the scene, decided to pen down the experience in her blog.

She shared the harrowing experience of a pregnant woman, who was rudely turned down by another woman, and that too inside the first coach, that is for exclusively "for ladies only".

In her blog, Akanksha, wrote that the incident happened in evening on a blue line metro route, when she was returning from her office. Akanksha was lucky to have got a seat during peak office hours.

At Rajiv Chowk Metro station, that is a major junction for changing metros and is extremely crowded, a pregnant woman asked a girl, who was sitting next to Akanksha, to give her the seat.

But the sitting girl's insensitive attitude left her flabbergasted. Here's how the conversation went off between the two:

Pregnant lady: Please give me seat.

Young lady: No!

Pregnant lady: I have to go all the way to Dwarka.

Young lady: Even I have to

Pregnant lady: I am pregnant. That's why I am asking for the seat.

Young lady: So? What can I do?

Pregnant lady: So please give me seat.

Young lady: Go from here. I will not give you seat. Ask someone else.

Pregnant lady: But why?

Young lady: Because I want to sit !

First attitude and then pretend to be 'ignorant'

The girl not only behaved nastily, but also shamelessly pretended to be ignorant about the entire issue. The girl, in an attempt to save herself from loathing eyes, coolly put ear plugs and kept her hands over her head, so that other commuters assume that she was sleeping/resting/tired.

Then, Akanksha, who was perturbed by what she just saw, finally offered her seat to the pregnant woman.

Such incidents may look small news-wise, but they should act as an eye-opener for all those, who want to remain confined to their comfort zone, without realising other people's needs.
