Close aide of SP leader arrested in espionage case
New Delhi, Oct 29: Arrests in connection with the espionage racket being run by a staffer in the Pakistan High Commission continues. Farhat, said to be a close aide of Samajwadi Party leader Munawwar Saleem, was arrested by the Delhi Crime Branch based on the confessions made by Akthar.
Farhat is alleged to have shared documents of the Ministry of External Affairs with Akthar. His name had cropped up during the confession made by Akthar, who was on Thursday detained and declared persona non grata.
While the investigation is at a preliminary stage, sources say that Farhat had sourced documents relating to the Ministry of External Affairs and passed it on to Akthar. He is being questioned for further details by the Delhi police.
This is the fourth arrest made by the Delhi police in the past three days. Three people had earlier been picked up for their alleged links to Akthar. They were Subhash Jangir, Maulana Ramzan and Shoaib.
The Delhi police also has under its scanner an official from ISRO who was also named by Akthar during his confession.
