Centre appeals to SC, urges not to cancel illegal coal blocks
Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said that out of the 218 coal blocks in the country, 40 were ready for production and that they should not be scraped.
The Attorney general said that the Government was willing to re-auction coal blocks if their allocations were revoked.
Rohatgi said: "If the Supreme Court wants, it can cancel the coal block allotments, but 46 coal blocks that are fully functional must not be cancelled." He added and said that the position of power in the country was very critical.
"If cancellation is done, we want to quickly go ahead with the auctioning," he said.
