New Delhi, Jan 9: A week after the merger of his Karnataka Janata Paksh (KJP) with the BJP, former chief minister of Karmataka B S Yeddyurappa will formally join the saffron party on Thursday. He had left the BJP in December 2012 after a serious fall-out with the central leadership and made the party suffer in the state polls last year. The BJP, following the emergence of Narendra Modi as its leader for the 2014 elections, reached out to the Lingayat strongman and paved way for his return.

Karnataka BJP leaders received a nod from the central leadership last week and met Yeddyurappa here and asked him to decide a date for his formal return to the party.

Yeddyurappa had left the BJP in 2012 after a serious fallout with the top brass

Sources in the BJP's top brass said that Yeddyurappa's return to the party will be unconditional and that he will not contest the Lok Sabha elections due in some months. But later, the party decided to field him to boost its political fortune in the southern state where it had formed its first government under the same man in 2008.

It was also learnt that Yeddyurappa is likely to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Shimoga, which is currently represented by his son B S Raghavendra.
