Autorickshaw driver's daughter wins 12 gold medals in Mysuru
Mysuru, April 12: Suma, daughter of an auto-rickshaw driver, won 12 gold medals and three cash prizes at the 96th convocation of the University of Mysore, which was held on Monday (April 11). The occasion coincided with the university's centenary year of foundation.
Suma, whose father runs an autorickshaw in Ittigegoodu in Mysuru, said it was her hard work which helped her see this day, a Newskarnataka report said. She also thanked her parents who, despite their financial stress, encouraged her to continue with her studies and she dedicated her medals to them. She won the medals in Chemistry (Master's), the report said.
She also thanked Mysuru's Maharani college, her institute, for all the support.
Besides Suma, Shambhavi and Pushpa, daughters of a tea-seller and daily wage earne, respectively, also made their humble families proud by winning gold medals and cash prizes. Both these girls are B Sc students.
