Mumbai's never ending fly object troubles

Mumbai, July 7: Mumbai's troubles with objects flying in the air does not seem to end. Last month there was a security scare when some balloons were found flying around at the airport. Now drones have been spotted flying over the Tata Institute of Social Sciences at Trombay.

Although none have jumped to conclusions that these are drones of terror, the fact is that this was part of a promotional exercise by an event management company.

Mumbai's never ending fly object trouble

While one may heave a sigh of relief, the pertinent question to be asked is how did the event management company manage to fly a drone over such a high security zone.

An act of carelessness

The drone was found hovering around the Tata Institute of Social Sciences which is very close to the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. The Babha Atomic Research Centre is high on the terror radar since the past ten years.

The drone which was flying 20 metres above the institute was spotted by a professor who reported it to the police. The police during their investigation found that some event management company was carrying out a photo shoot with the help of the drone.

Prior permission needed

There is a ban on flying drones without prior permission. It is quite astonishing that these companies continue to flout the norms despite there being rules in place. Mumbai is a city hit by spectacular terrorist attacks several times in the past.

The last time such an incident was reported was at the airport. These were balloons which flew around the airport and a portion of the media went gung-ho over and even termed them balloons of terror. Investigations found that these balloons were part of a promotional activity and had strayed into the airport area.

Security experts say that if this is the state of the security then it is not very difficult for a terrorist organization to carry out a hit by using the same tactics. The problem is that the action that the Mumbai police take is pathetic and more often than not such persons flouting the norms get away with menial action.
