Mumbai: BMC kills over 2 lakh rats in 6 months
Mumbai, July 19: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Mumbai has killed over 2 lakh rats in six months in order to curb rats population in the city. While the operation was carried out in the eastern and western suburbs by appointed NGOs, the BMC's rat killers completed the task in the island city.
Speaking to ANI, R.A Naringrekar, Insecticide Officer, BMC said,''In last 6 months, BMC has killed 2,27000 rats, we added a new program, Night rat killing where we give chance to unemployed people to work. In monsoon leptospirosis spreads due waterlogging, to curb it we are speeding up the process.''
The civic body has also appealed to residents to keep their premises clean, fill burrows around their households and in their premises as soon as possible, install rat guards on pipelines in building premises, etc.
