Maratha stir: 'Pune bandh' rumour forces schools to declare holiday

Mumbai, July 30: Rumours that a Pune bandh would be observed on July 30 led to the closure of schools on Monday.

According to the reports, Social media was abuzz with rumours that the schools to remain closed as it anticipates violence.

Following confusion among parents, schools issued notification with some making it voluntary among parents to send their children to schools, other pushing the scheduled exam ahead and few declaring a holiday on Monday, reports Times of india.

A notification from Bishop's Co-ed school, Kalyaninagar said that: "In view of tomorrow's rally, there may be traffic diversions later in the day in certain parts of the city. You may accordingly decide to send your ward to school. The School buses will be plying on normal routes.

The school had re-scheduled one paper from its on-going unit est on July 20 due to same issue when school bus transporters had called for a strike to Monday, July 30.

The circular regarding the exam said that, "The tests scheduled for tomorrow, 30th July 2018 is rescheduled to a later date. The date for the tests will be notified in due course of time.

Meanwhile, Vibgyor School at NIBM, Phoenix World School in Kharadi, Pawar Public School at Amanora had also declared a holiday as a safety step against the bandh news.

The Maratha community has been demanding quota under the OBC category. The community had held violent protests across the state last week for this demand.
