Rape victim's mother records statement
Mumbai, Sept 20: After nearly a month since a 22-year-old photojournalist was gangraped in the deserted Shakti Mills compound here, the victim's mother, in her statement said that 'on that fateful night her daughter was inconsolable.'

The mother said that on the night, when her daughter was out on an assignment, she had made calls to her asking her about her whereabouts. After the dreaded incident took place, she (mother) called her daughter around 7.30 pm and was worried as she was crying and said, "Mummy I am going to the Jaslok hospital. Please come to Jaslok Hospital."

The mother, who was worried sick asked her to pass onto the phone to her friend, following which she spoke to her male colleague.

The victim's mother recollected the scenario at the hospital once she reached there. "When I reached the hospital, I saw my daughter crying, and looking at me she cried even more," she said. When she asked her what happened, she said that she was forcefully raped by five people.

All she could remember was their description and not their names, the mother said in her statement.

The statement is a part of the 600-page chargesheet that the Mumbai police filed on Thursday, against the five accused.
