Campa Cola: Residents refuse to vacate
Mumbai, June 12: Residents of illegal flats in the Campa Cola Compound in Mumbai, who have been ordered to vacate the premises by Thursday evening, have refused to hand over their keys.

The residents have refused to meet the deadline set by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC and threatened to pitch tents within the compound premises and stay there.

The Supreme Court had rejected the plea of the residents on Tuesday who were opposed against the demolition of the flats. They had filed a plea demanding a stay on the demolition of their flats till the court decides on their curative petition.

The curative petition, quoting information received through RTI, says that the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai and the state had decided to regularise the illegal construction in 1985.

Over 90 illegal flats in the complex, built illegally in the early 1980s, are set to be demolished.
