Live Narendra Modi in Mangalore
Mangalore, Feb 18: After wooing the crowds in Davangere, BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi addressed a rally here. Earlier today, Modi in his speech in Devangere criticised the Congress party for ignoring farmers issues and women's security.

5.20 pm: We are a nation of mouse charmers, says Modi

Praising the IT field in Karnataka, Modi said: We used to be a nation of snake charmers now we are a nation of mouse charmers. However the IT sector has become stagnant." Warning the youth in the IT sector Modi said that we must not be stuck in low end technology.

" We must aim for high end technology too. There is nothing today in world without technology. We must work in the direction where we can make use of this technology," he said.

"We don't export talent, we export labour. Unless we don't export both talent and labour, we will be stuck in low end outsource," he said.

Modi said that the tourism in the country needed a boost in order to lure high cost tourists.

"Small markets like Korea, Bangladesh and Taiwan have taken over a nation like ours that produces and exports cotton," he said.

Attacking the Congress, Modi said that though the Congress had promised in 2009 Parliament to give employment to one member in each family. "The Congress did not fulfill that promise, they were blinded with arrogance. Where will our youth go if they do not have jobs. Our priority must be to provide employment to the youth," he said.

Congress has no model, no initiative to provide employment. "SC raps the Congress government almost everyday. The country won't be free from corruption till we vote Congress out," he said.

"I am asking for your vote for development. We need to fight the elections for the country, not for an individual not for a party," he said.

5.05 pm: Narendra Modi praises Mangalore

Praising the people of Mangalore, Modi said that the region had given many banks to the country. "Coastal states and districts need a special policy for their development. Just one tailor made solution will not help in the country's progress. Keeping in mind their needs, a separate vision is needed for these regions," he said.

"Port development is not going to work, port lead development is what we need. The fishing community needs to be empowered by technology. If satellite technology is used it will save their time. I have implemented the same in Gujarat with success," he said.

"It is the time that we accept urbanisation as opportunity. The Centre rejected urbanisation, but we must accept urbanisation. We need to change the face of infrastructure. Just roads, airports not sufficient. The quality of lighting used in these places is necessary," he said. He added that a network to transmit electricity from surplus states needs to be established.

16.56 pm: Narendra Modi mocks at Congress

"The black pepper from the region is being used in the Parliament by Congress. Congress has destroyed the country. If there are voices of dissent against them, they send them to jails," Modi said.

Modi attacking Congress said: "For how long will the Congress continue to mislead the people by using pepper in their eyes. The public knows whats happening. There is no democracy in the Congress. It is not in them to make use of democracy."

Congress is misleading the country through its promises and slogans, he added. "There is unemployment in the country, farmers are still committing suicide. In 60 years, the country has never witnessed such a time what we are witnessing now. For the first time there is a government that is engulfed the country in corruption," he said.
