Wedding called off as demonitisation hits dowry demand
News agency ANI quotes the bride's family stating that they were unable to fulfill the demands of the groom who had sought dowry.
Muzaffarnagar, Nov 26: Demonetisation has hit those seeking dowry as well. Unable to fulfil a dowry demand due to demonetisation, a wedding was called off at Muzzafarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.
News agency ANI quotes the bride's family stating that they were unable to fulfill the demands of the groom who had sought dowry. The father of bride says that the groom's family was demanding a car and cash in new currency. However due to demonetisation of the Rs 500 and 1,000 notes they could not fulfill the demand as a result of which the marriage was called off.
It now appears as though the evil called dowry too has been hit due to demonetisation. Under the law, both giving and taking dowry constitutes an offence.
