Rumours of salt shortage triggers panic among residents of UP, Delhi
Salt is reportedly being sold at Rs 200 per kilo in several parts of UP
Lucknow, Nov 11: A new rumour in Uttar Pradesh sent people into a panic mode on Friday. Several people thronged to local shops after salt shortage rumours came up, forcing them to buy salt in bulk.
According to reports, due to this, salt is reportedly being sold at Rs 200 per kg in several parts of the state. There have also been reports of panic buying in several parts of the National Capital Region (NCR).
While there is no information as to how the rumours began, officials say that there is no shortage of salt in the stateThe union government clarified that there is no such shortage.
"There is no shortage of salt. State governments have all powers to ensure its availability at reasonable price," an official spokesperson said.
Inspector General of the Lucknow Zone said: "Shortage of salt is a rumour, kindly do not pay any attention to it and help us maintain law and order."
Meanwhile, the Moradabad District Magistrate said: "These are rumours that salt will be sold at higher rates, this led to panic among people today."

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal too took to Twitter and said: "Some people are spreading rumours that there is shortage of salt and sugar, this is false."
