Uttar Pradesh: Know about the “criminal” candidates in Phase 5 polls

Lucknow, May 5:

will see the fifth phase of polling on May 7 in 16 constituencies.

According to a TOI report, 15 mafia-turned-politicians are in the poll fray in the next phase of polls.

Constituencies that will go to polls on May 7 are- Allahabad, Amethi, Ambedkar Nagar, Barabanki, Basti, Bahraich, Bhadohi, Faizabad, Gonda, Shravasti, Kaiserganj, Kaushambi (SC), Phulpur, Pratapgarh, Sultanpur and Sant Kabir Nagar.

In ten constituencies, at least 3 or more candidates hold criminal record and they are crorepatis also.

Ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate from Shravasti, Atiq Ahmed, who has spent half of his life behind bars, has 42 criminal cases pending against him. He is facing serious charges like murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, extortion, inciting communal passions, criminal intimidation, assault, house-trespass, forgery and robbery among others.

During a rally, he even said that he has 188 cases against him and has no regret about it.

Another SP candidate and an MLA from Bikapur, Faizabad, 70-year-old Mitrasen Yadav is also an accused in a killing case, embezzlement and human trafficking case in 2007.

Interestingly, Yadav is contesting against 46-year-old BSP candidate, Jintendra Singh Babloo, who has 17 criminal cases against him.

BJP candidate and an MLA from Bhinga town in Shravasti district, is also among the criminal candidates.

Another BJP candidate from Kaiserganj, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh has an image as that of a "don" as he was reportedly involved in providing shelter to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's henchmen in 1992, but was acquitted.

He faces murder and attempt to murder cases against him and he will face SP candidate Vinod Kumar Singh alias Pandit Singh, who was also involved in a kidnapping case.

BSP MP from Phulpur, Kapil Muni Kawaria faces four criminal cases including murder, attempt to murder and theft.

Kawaria will contest against BJP candidate Keshav Prasad who has 11 criminal cases including murder, disturbing communal harmony and robbery against him.

SP candidate from Sant Kabir Nagar and MP, Bhal Chandra Yadav is facing 10 criminal cases against him including charges including murder and attempt to murder.

Yadav is pitted against BSP MP Kushal Tiwari, who is the son of mafia-turned-politician Hari Shankar Tiwari.

SP candidate from Bhadohi, Seema Mishra is the daughter of noted gangster Vijay Mishra, who is in jail.

BSP candidate from Sultanpur, Pawan Pandey has 32 criminal cases against him including that of murder, attempt to murder, rape, kidnapping, assault, dacoity and robbery.

Pawan Pandey's brother Rakesh is also a BSP candidate and a sitting MP from Ambedkarnagar and he also faces cases of murder, kidnapping and harbouring criminals against him.
