Uttar Pradesh has become the 19th state in India to enforce a complete ban on plastic bags.

The plastic ban in Maharashtra came into effect on June 23. Maharashtra's move to ban plastic, the first such broad action against the material by an Indian state, has come after Prime Minister Narendra Modi pushed a plan to completely end the use of single-use plastic in India by 2022.

On March 23, the state announced a ban on manufacture, use, sale, distribution and storage of plastic materials such as one-time-use bags, spoons, plates, PET and PETE bottles and thermocol items. The government had given three months time to dispose of the existing stocks, which ended on June 23.

According to reports, Maharashtra government allowed e-commerce companies to use plastic packaging for three more months, as per a government order dated June 30, which was published on July 3. As per the notification , it has allowed retail packaging for groceries and grain products with certain riders that include the use of plastic above 50 microns with a minimum weight of 2 gm.

The name of the manufacturer should be printed on the plastic bag along with details of type of plastic and buyback price.
