UP: Temple purified after ‘woman' BJP MLA enters it
Lucknow, July 30: In an incident which yet again brings to fore the gender bias prevalent in the society, a temple in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur was purified with Ganga jal after BJP MLA Manisha Anuragi visited it earlier this month. The shrine was purified because of a draconian practice to not allow women to enter it.
Not only was the temple purified, the idols of the shrine were sent to Allahabad for purification in river Ganges. The MLA had visited the temple on July 12, as per reports.
"It's an insult to women if such things have happened. These are deeds of half-witted people," ANI quoted Anuragi as saying.
The priest of the temple remained defiant and said he would not have allowed Anuragi to enter the shrine if was there on July 12.
"Till today no women had entered the temple. When Manisha Anuragi entered the temple, I was not there otherwise I would not have allowed her to enter," priest of the temple said.
