Lucknow, June 30: BSP chief Mayawati on Friday accused the BJP government, saying that the release of surgical strike video is an effort to exploit the Army's valour for electoral gains.

Mayawati questioned the timing of the release of purported video clips from the September 2016 surgical strikes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

"Releasing video of the surgical strike is nothing but an attempt by this Govt to distract people from their enormous failures before 2019. If they did it with intention of showing proof, then why did they not release the video when strike was carried out?, " Mayawati asked.

She further asked, "If they did it with intention of showing proof, then why did they not release the video when strike the was carried out?."

Earlier, Lt General (Retd) DS Hooda, who oversaw 2016 surgical strike Operation, said, "Decision finally came from political leadership but the military was in agreement that we needed to do something. If we want to send another strong response to Pak in the future we can definitely do it again."

For the first time since India announced that it had conducted surgical strikes against terror launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in September 2016, video clips of these operations were broadcast on several television news channels on Wednesday night.
